Scott Ruffcorn, Violet & Lil' Liam!

The Big Apple

New York is our hometown. I've lived here all my life and Scott has been here for almost two years...and at the moment, we can't imagine living anywhere else.

Scott and I are really honored to have friends and family from around the country join us for our wedding! We're working on gathering some travel information and we'll post these details as we pull them together. But if you have any questions in the interim, please let us know via the contact form on the home page.

We're excited to share our city with our friends and family who have never experienced life in the Big Apple! Even for a seasoned New Yorker as I am, I still find new things to do and places to explore all the time.

One area that I'm fairly familiar with is Chinatown & Little Italy. I led my Big Brother Big Sister workplace mentoring group on a walking tour of the neighborhood last year. Here is a link to the map of our walking tour - it took our group (6 adults and 8 teens) about 2 hours to get through half the points of interest but we had taken considerable time for afternoon snacks!

p.s. the meeting point on the map was our starting point - in the heart of Little Italy!

NYC Walking "Visits"

I was doing some research on visiting New York City (as a native, I take certain details for granted...like flying into the city and getting around Manhattan). I found this great website for Big Apple Greeter - http://www.bigapplegreeter.org/index.html . The organization describes itself as "welcome visitor" program made up of volunteers who provide guided walks of the various neighborhoods throughout the five boroughs. And it's free of charge, no tipping accepted (but donations are welcomed on their website)!

Another thing that is great about the site is that they also provide "Neighborhood Information Profiles" (http://www.bigapplegreeter.org/06-resources/02-neighborhood.html) that can be used for self-guided walking tours.

Reservations are required about a month in advance for a guide. Maybe Scott and I will check out a neighborhood or two...keep you posted!
