Scott Ruffcorn, Violet & Lil' Liam!

Oliver - The Best Dog

Picture
This is Oliver - Ollie for short - Violet's family dog (yes, that is a dog in Scott's stick figure self-portrait). He's a 4 year old West Highland White Terrier. Or terror. We plan on including Ollie in the wedding party as Best Dog but he has a few quirks that we have to work on with him. He's the true embodiment of "terrier tough" - nobody tells him what to do...which is the problem.

As a Westie, Ollie has a high ratter instinct. That means that he hates those squirrels that run amok in Central Park...yikes!

We'll keep you posted on Ollie's progess as we prep him for his role as Best Dog.

Update 6.2.2010

Picture
Who knew that a pup with a sweet little face like this could be such a devil dog?

Ollie can be a sweetheart...when he wants to be. When he's feeling playful/nosy/dominant - watch out! This was evident at Uncle Bill's house this weekend. He was, quite honestly, a kook around the swimming pool. I've never seen him so barky and off-the-wall, nipping at the surface of the water with his teeth and trying to push anyone by the edge into the pool! I've also discovered that Ollie is either very rambunctious around little kids or he can't stand them. Poor cousin Lucas and his friend Stefan almost had their swim trunks ripped off of them!

Ollie's contempt for all things varmint has reached a new level. Apparently he now wakes up at 3am to lay in wait for our neighborhood raccoon to knock over the garbage cans and start dining. Fortunately for us, he realizes it's not in his best interest to try to scrap with "Rocky" but I think it's more because it would be unwise to wake us up in the middle of the night!

Although Ollie is always "Best Dog" in our hearts, he still has a ways to go for the wedding!

The Wedding Day

Those of you who attended the ceremony may have noticed that Ollie did not make his appearance as Best Dog on our wedding day. He did participate in the rehearsal the afternoon before...and was perfectly behaved! Ultimately, the family decided that Ollie would just get overwhelmed and hyperexcited by the activities of the actual wedding day. The last thing we wanted was for him to start nipping our guests and howling during the vows (although we would like to think he would have been rooting us on!).

So he did stay home...and had the time of his life! His best friend Max and Max's mom Ann spent the entire day with him. Being the little emperor that he is, he was treated to luxurious walks, belly rubs and hand fed meals!

It's good to be OIlie!
